Apparently recognizing the way to our hearts is through the combination of basketball and politics, the Obama campaign today tried to make sure the bar was set high for Clinton in Pennsylvania (and lower expectations about Obama’s performance) in a memo that compares Hillary to the Leastern Conference:

“Behind in delegates and sporting a 14-30 primary record (not good enough even to make the playoffs in the NBA Eastern Conference), the Clinton campaign needs a blowout victory in Pennsylvania to get any closer to winning the nomination.”

Brazil priest carried aloft by balloons missing

Fund-raising stunt goes awry, but supporters hopeful

SAO PAULO, Brazil - A Roman Catholic priest who floated off under hundreds of helium party balloons was missing Monday off the southern coast of Brazil.

He was reported missing about eight hours later after losing contact with port authority officials, according to the treasurer of his Sao Cristovao parish, Denise Gallas.

So we’ve gotten to the time of year that always seems to see a decline in my academic performance- NBA playoff time (apparently professors don’t like it when you watch basketball games in their classes. although they get used to it after a while).

In an unpredictable year (KG makes Boston matter again, Kobe realizes he has teammates, Houston loses Yao Ming and proceeds to win 22 games straight, New Orleans beats out all Texas teams for the southwest division crown, we find out Louisiana is in the Southwest, the Suns and the Mavs make blockbuster trades leading to the “genius/moronic” debate, and we win our fantasy basketball league) the real fun is about to begin.

Ignoring the Eastern conference, which won’t get interesting until the 2nd round (with the possible exception of Gilbert Arenas’ trash talking), we’re looking at eight 50+ win teams going up against each other in the West.

The Suns and Spurs are meeting in the first round. Assuming this doesn’t become known as “the Suns get screwed in the Playoffs, Part IV,” last year’s champs could be going home early. Plus, we might even get an answer to the age old question, “How long will it take before someone punches Bruce Bowen in the face?”

As we get ready for Saturday, let’s remember the good times:
