69.5 Wins to Go.
I went to the A’s game today. Some guy scalped me two field level seats for 10 bucks a ticket. They lost to Cleveland, but they’re 3-4 which isn’t that bad considering they’ve been playing good teams (unlike the Mariners who have managed to lose three straight games to the Orioles.) The best part of the game was that as we were leaving there was a homeless guy in the wheelchair with a sign that said “Family kidnapped by ninjas. Need $4 for karate lessons.” I didn’t give him 4 bucks because I’m a heartless bastard.
Here are some fun facts about the A’s:
Right fielder Travis Buck is basically the anti-Ichiro. He’s 0-21 with 8 strikeouts to start the season. He’s leading off. I’d compare him to Richie Sexson but he isn’t getting paid obscene amounts of money to be bad at baseball. Buck did start the game with an 12 pitch at bat and was cheered despite flying out to left field.
Fatboy Joe Blanton must have done something to really horrible to the rest of his teammates because they refuse to score whenever he is pitching. He has given up 3, 2, and 2 in his three starts and has 2 loses to show for it, raising the possibility of a pitcher going 9-17 and winning the Cy Young award.
The A’s have 2 guys named Sweeney on the roster. Mike is this year’s over the hill “slugger” that the A’s always bring in. He joins a tradition that includes Mike Piazza, Frank Thomas, Eric Karros. Ryan is a rookie center fielder. He is hitting .500 and still got pinch hit for in the 8th inning today. Jack Cust was the pinch hitter and he struck out. Great managing there.
Our seats were by the home bullpen and Huston Street warmed up but didn’t actually pitch. On the dreamy scale with 10 being among the dreamiest on earth and 1 being not dreamy at all, he’s an 11.

For those of you who are enthralled by my reporting of the Travis Buck saga, you’ll be glad to hear that in the top of the second inning of today’s game against the Blue Jays he got a double and drove in a run! The nation can breathe a collective sigh of relief.
On a unrelated note, is commenting on my own post discouraged?
